The purpose of this research is to clarify the lifestyle difficulties that people with mental disorders encounter andgain suggestions for helping them continue to live in regional communities. A search was made on the Ichushi Web databasewith the keywords “home visit nursing,” “mental,” and “region.” Fifteen papers were used. Based on previous research,“lifestyle difficulties” were divided into four categories: “a gap in perception between the nurse and person with the mentaldisorder when receiving care,”“ inadequate systems at the workplace and in regional society for accepting people with mentaldisorders,” “community residents’ prejudice against people with mental disorders, lack of knowledge, and apathy,” and“excessive intrusiveness by others towards people with mental disorders.” The results of the literature review indicate that itis important when interacting with people with mental disorders to respect their intentions regarding how they want to livetheir lives, and to interact with them so that they can make their own decisions.
