When expressing the lexical system of Japanese verbs of giving as the giving verb of centrifugal direction from a speaker or the giving verb of centripetal direction to a speaker, [kureru/kureru] are maintained in the peripheral dialects used in the east of the Chubu region or in the south of the Kyushu region; however, the lexical system of [yaru/kureru] has been maintained in the central dialects used in the Kinki region. In regions where this [yaru/kureru] makes contact with [kureru/kureru], there are cases where an opposition of [yaru/kureru] occurs in the usage of the auxiliary verb; however, [kureru/kureru] is maintained in the usage of the main verb. Various phenomena of metamorphosis through dialect contact in the system of verbs of giving and their geographical distribution have been investigated through the results of the Field Research Project to Analyze the Formation Process of Japanese Dialects (the FPJD survey).
