Students' Awareness of English and Other Foreign Languages at Tohoku Fukushi University : Trends Indicated in a Student Survey

A Student survey on the foreign language curriculum at Tohoku Fukushi University and their awareness of foreign language education was conducted in the total of 98 compulsory foreign language classes for freshmen and sophomores in order to learn about the students' general attitude toward English and foreign languages. The result shows that 1)the majority of the students indicated their interest in foreign languages and cultures, but their motivation to learn foreign languages seemed to weaken and their goals in languages studies tended to be revised downward as they became sophomores 2) the majority of the students were aware of the between their high awareness level of needs in English and answers for questions regarding their motivation to learn foreign languages.
