Departmental Bulletin Paper 男性学・男性研究と 今日の男性問題についての考察

飯野, 智子

This paper examines the present situation in which the concept of a “male problem” (a problem arising because a person is a male) is not commonly recognized. We consider the problem of “maleness,” which is the object of “men’s studies and studies on men,” from the viewpoint of the obviousness of masculinity, the invisibility of the male problem, and the difficulty of setting this as a problem. Furthermore, we highlight the participation of males in the labor market, housework, and childcare, and verify the current suppressed situation of males and the possibilities for overcoming this. Ultimately, we explore the significance of “men’s studies and studies on men” to solve today’s gender problem.
