The redox state of H2O after irradiation of low linear energy transfer C-ion beam (13 keV/µm) was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, which was solubilized in water by beta-cyclodextrin. The dose dependence of the decrease in the absorption band due to DPPH radical after the C-ion irradiation is similar to that after X-irradiation. On the other hand, DPPH radical was significantly more susceptible to the C-ion beam than to X-ray in isopropyl myristate, a saturated fatty acid ester.
