The purpose of this study is to historically evaluate Kigo Shichiro design based on full-feature survey of his design activities. Further, reveal independence of architects in the Osaka architectural community through Kigo. Kigo is an architect who worked in Osaka from the Taisho era to the early Showa era. Initially, Kigo adopted historicism such as Neo Renaissance. By around 1915, changed to a new style that was born as a style against historicism such as Secession. In addition, around 1929, became Late Expressionism that is an Expressionism influenced by Modernism. Kigo flexibly adopted various styles according to the intention of owner, his thought, and the use of the building. When analyzing “independence of the architect" in the Osaka architectural community from the two perspectives of “independence from the organization" and “independence from national style adoption" through comparison with the Tokyo architectural community, the uniqueness of Osaka emerges. Kigo had established its own position in the Osaka architectural community where various styles were permitted, and independence as an architect is recognized there.
