In international trade practices, a letter of credit (L/C), bank’s undertaking to pay to a beneficiary, has traditionally been utilized as a safe payment tool for a long time. In recent years, however, an attention has been drawn to a new-style transaction called “TSU/BPO”. Since banks are required to pay to a beneficiary with a BPO (Bank Payment Obligation), this transaction is equipped with “credibility” which is a merit of an L/C, in addition to“promptness” which is a merit of remittance. That’s why its advantage has already been emphasized by comparing with L/C transaction. This paper also discusses the advantage of TSU/BPO transaction, but it will be made by putting its focus on the different communication method between TSU/BPO and L/C transactions.
