Numerical Simulation of the Wayfinding Behaiour of a Pedestrian Crowd by the SPH Method

A numerical method is proposed for simulating the behavior of pedestrians who move finding their way in a complicated passage. The movement of pedestrians is expressed as a flow of compressible viscous fluid. The flow equations are discretized and solved by the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH) method. To model the wayfinding behavior of pedestrians mathematically, the logit model is employed. The proposed method is verified through several numerical examples. Encouraging results are obtained.
