This paper explores how haiku has been subtly and skillfully used to finesse diplomatic situations such as formalgreetings, state dinners and summit meetings. Acritique of haiku is offered in terms of its diplomatic agility, greetingfunction, and literary merits. Results show that haiku has successfully been used in welcome messages between heads of state.
