Relationship between Image of and Attitude toward Communication Skills in Japanese Undergraduate Students

In recent years, “communication skills” have become necessary for young people and are widely and commonly used. This study investigated the relationship between the image of and attitudes toward “communication skills” and social skills infemale university students. The results revealed that the students regarded “communication skills” as conversational ability, sociability, relationship-forming ability, and mutual-understanding ability. Students who regarded “communicationskills” as conversational ability or sociability thought of it as a concept that had strong influence. Students who regarded “communication skills” as a relationship-forming ability were uncertain about it. Students who regarded “communication skills” as mutual-understanding ability thought of it as a measurable concept. Student with low social skills tended to regard “communication skills” as conversational ability or sociability.
