The overarching philosophy of The Center for English as a Lingua Franca (CELF)is that the quality of our teaching will determine the success of our new Englishas a Lingua Franca (ELF) program. As a result of the hiring policy of the center,whereby teachers need not be native English speakers, a very diverse group of45 teachers has been assembled. This diversity represents a valuable resourcefor faculty development as all teachers bring different cultural, educational, andlanguage learning backgrounds (e.g., Ukraine, India, Korea, The Philippines, NewZealand, Ireland, and Turkey). In this report, we describe the variety of facultytraining and development activities completed during the 2015 academic year andalso share the center’s research achievements.
