Space Perception and the Representation of the World with the “Body”:The Struggle of Cezanne and Modernist Writers

小笠原, 亜衣

2015 ( 50 )  , pp.13 - 23 , 2015-03-31
This paper focuses on how Paul Cezanne, the French painter, modified linear perspective to realize “what he actually saw,” and struggled to actualize a space that fits our perceptual representation of a 3D scene more realistically than the photograph, influencing Modernist writers who followed him?such as D.H. Lawrence, Gertrude Stein, and Ernest Hemingway?and directing them to a representation of the world with the “body.”
