The Handling of Personal Information in Prewar Criminal News

 This paper reports on empirical research on changes and problems of how suspects and victims have been handled in criminal reporting. We address how the Japanese media has handled reporting of criminals from the pre-World War II period until today. The study examines changes and problems through long-term analysis of press reporting. The current paper discusses coverage of personal information and privacy information, focusing on the Teijin Scandal (1934- ).
