This short paper is to review the relationship between Project Adventure (PA) andCooperative Learning (CL). Both are effective pedagogies for fostering children’s self-directedlearning. Promoting children’s self-directed learning is a critical issue of newly revised thecourse of study 2017. How PA and CL work to develop children’s self-directed learning isinvestigated. Between PA and CL, there are identified several common elements for desiredlearning outcomes, such as setting a mutual goal among the team members, respectingtheir choice and challenge to achieve the goal, processing their collaboration, and reflectingsuccessful experiences for their learning and further progress. A benefit of integrating CLwith PA is argued to promote children’s self-directed learning from the view of the study ofcooperation in education.
