Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, the first president of Soka Gakkai, severely criticized knowledgecramming education and advocated enlightenment and learning guiding by publishing “TheTheory of Value-Creating Pedagogy”. N.F.S. Grundtvig, father of modern education inDenmark, also criticized the school education of his time and founded the Folkehøjskole (FolkHigh School), “a school for life”.Thinking that “Enlightenment” in the philosophy of both Makiguchi and Grundtvig isnecessary for modern education and teachers, I study the role of teachers through the dialoguebetween Hans Henningsen and Daisaku Ikeda. Moreover, I set it as a practical theory in themodern context by mentioning the image of teachers pursued by MEXT.
