Children’s expression of sound through drawing, and interpretation of these drawings

奥, 美佐子

This study aimed to identify through actual testing how a child reads another child’s drawn representation of sound, and also to find a sympathetic factor between the senses of the child expressing the sound in the art and those of the child interpreting the art. In an exercise of converting single-tone sounds to color, common color selections were observed to represent low-pitch and high-pitched sounds. When interpreting drawn onomatopoeic sounds, children tended use the shape of the lines to help imagine the sound.
