Effects of Check Valves on Operating Characteristics of Oscillating Heat Pipes

In this work, the effects of the check valves on operating characteristics of Oscillating Heat Pipes are investigated by using a mathematical model. The model is a one-dimensional slug flow model in which the movement of liquid slugs is governed by pressure differences among vapor plugs and by pressure drops in the tubes. Four different configurations of Oscillating Heat Pipes with check valves are simulated. Results show that thermal performance can be improved and that fluidic phenomena in the Oscillating Heat Pipe are strongly affected by the number of check valves.
