Development of Lightweight Solar Paddle using Thin-film Solar Cells for DESTINY Mission

Lightweight solar paddle is being developed for mission of Demonstration and Experiment of Space Technology for Interplanetary voYage (DESTINY). The paddle employs two important technologies. One is a glass type space solar sheet (G-SSS) and the other is curved solar panel. G-SSS utilize lightweight and high efficiency thin-film solar cells. Additionally, the panel is formed of curved surface for improving an out-of-plane stiffness of G-SSS. These technologies open the way for realizing the lightweight solar panels with high specific power. This paper presents the latest result of the study of G-SSS and lightweight solar paddle for DESTINY.
