Description
The regenerative cooling combustion chamber of a liquid propellant rocket engine is one of the critical components to limit the life of engine. Especially for the reusable rocket engine combustor, it is important to develop an effective nondestructive inspection technique to assure its life. JAXA/ISAS developed a reusable LOX/LH2 rocket engine for the Reusable Sounding Rocket and conducted 142 times of engine firings. In the series of firing tests, 4 times of nondestructive inspection of the combustion chamber was carried out using a high-energy X-ray CT system of Hitachi, Ltd. By making full use of image analysis technique, the deformation of chamber inner wall and the distribution of chamber wall thickness can be evaluated, and their transitional progress due to the repeated engine firing tests are also clarified.
