内容記述
[Purpose] The administration rate of the visual acuity test in kindergartens, nursery schools andmedical checkups of three-year-old children is low, though the test is obliged by law. Therefore, there are children[A1] who miss the opportunity to undergo a visual acuity test during a sensitivestage, and visual disorders, such as ametropia, tissue abnormality, and amblyopia, may beoverlooked. Aiming at detecting and treating such children at an early stage by raising theadministration rate of the visual acuity test for children, we devised a visual acuity test which canbe executed “accurately in a short time” and confirmed its effectiveness. [Methods] Weperformed a visual acuity test on three-year-old children in a kindergarten using such a testmethod mentioned above between October and December 2015. We analyzed the number ofchildren who were judged to have “suspected poor eyesight” according to the test, and thenumber of children who were advised to consult with an ophthalmologist at a medical institution.[Results] Out of 78 three-year-old children who underwent the visual acuity test, 20 children(25.6%) were advised to consult with an ophthalmologist at a medical institution and 14 of them(17.9%) underwent consultation. In addition, 9 children (11.5%) were detected to have a tissueabnormality, poor ametropia or an adjustment disorder. [Conclusion] The results, suggest thatthe visual acuity test which we devised is effective in detecting three-year-old children with“suspected poor eyesight”.
