The purpose of this research is to examine, via a questionnaire survey, the relationship between participation in an exercise class and social consciousness in a regional setting and to infer this causal relationship with the use of SEM. The questionnaire was formulated in accordance with our belief that 'trust', 'association', 'exchange' and 'social participation' are the core concepts of social capital. The results of such analysis yielded four 'structural factors' within ten items. The results of structural equation modeling yielded the following results: the correlation between 'factor 4 is social participation' and factor 3 IE 'association' was .343, and between factor 3 is 'associated' and factor 1 IE 'trust' was .307 – indicating a relatively weak correlation. The correlation between factor 3 'association' and factor 1 '(perceived) importance' was .289 – indicating a relatively weak correlation. In addition, the indices that reveal the degree of relevance were GFI=.968, AGFI = .945, CFI = .909 and RMSEA = .050, indicating a high degree of relevance. This research thus revealed that participation in an exercise club lead to consciousness with respect to 'social participation' within a community and the possibility of creating a horizontal network. It became apparent that participants with a certain degree of social consciousness were more likely to participate in sports activities. At the same time, such participation, by creating 'general trust, contributes to the stability of and within a community.
