Description
We investigated the fish fauna in Ani-jima and Chichi-jima islands for the purpose of contributing to conservation management of the Ogasawara Islands. A total of 321 species of 169 genera belonging to 59 families in 15 orders were recorded on the basis of underwater photographs. Eight species of them were newly recorded from the Ogasawara Islands: Saurida gracilis, Scorpaenopsis possi, Enneapterygius philippinus, Neoclinus nudus, Hazeus otakii, Eviota queenslandica, E. pellucida, Crossorhombus kobensis. Futami Bay is important as a candidate area for conservation because of occurrences of fishes inhabiting in inner bay such as Saurida nebulosa, Gerres baconensis, Hazeus otakii, Amblygobius sp. A of Suzuki and Shibukawa (2004), lstigobius campbelli, Vanderhorstia sp. 4, V. phaeostictus, Eviota shimadai, E. queenslandica and E. pellucida.
