The objectives of this study were 1) to investigate the levels of physical activity, assessed by using an accelerometer, in female university students and 2) to investigate relationships between menstrual health and physical activity. The subjects included 107 female university students. Daily steps and moderate to vigorous physical activity with an intensity of 3METs or higher (METs・h/wk) were assessed by using a tri-axial accelerometer. The subjects answered questionnaires about menstrual conditions, menstrual cycle symptoms, and menstrual attitudes. The daily steps and weekly physical activity were very high (11,461±3,456 steps/d, 46.3±16.9 METs・h/wk). The physical activity levels were not relevant to the menstrual cycle symptoms. However, the physically inactive group showed a higher prevalence of menstrual cycle irregularity and perceived that menstruation was a natural event for a woman to a lesser extent. These findings suggest that physical activity levels among the female university students were related to menstrual cycle regularity and menstrual attitude.
