In the Late Imperial China, the UK steamship admitted to enter Chinese inner river. doing the coastal navigation activities by the Nanjing Treaty and the United States also entered Chinese inner river. As a result, Yihe Yanghang (Jardine Matheson Co.), Chanchen Yanghang (Siemssen & Co.), Qichan Yanghang (Russell & Co.), etc. controlled the Yangtze River watershed and the coastal route connecting Tianjin, Shanghai, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Hong Kong, Shantou etc. On the other hand, the Qing Government established the Merchant Bureau Ferry Company in 1872 under the leadership of Lee Kun-hee in order to Compete with them. Therefore, in this paper I would like to consider the navigational activities of the flagship ship flying company, which as a representative of the steamboat operation of Russell & Co. of the United States, which actived in the Yangtze and coastal navigation in the 1960s and 1980s.
