He translated a part of the four Gospels from the original Latin text into Chinese, and added notations. Around 1800, the Jesuit Louis Antoine de Poirot (1735-1813) translated the Old and New Testaments, and collected them in the text Guxin Shenging (古新聖経). He also used the Latin Vulgate Bible and translated into the vernacular Chinese. This paper compares the parts of Matthew Gospel in the Guxin Shengjing and its predecessors, Shengjing zhijie, and examines their commonalities and differences in terms of vocabulary and style.
