本実践は上級日本語読解の授業にピア・ラーニングを取り入れたものである。ピア・ラーニングとは学習者同士が対等な関係で共に学び合うものであり、学習者の気づきを促す効果が示されている。授業は、読解→読解文要約のスキル提示→個人での要約→グループワークでの要約→内省と評価の質問紙記述という段階を踏んで進められた。本研究では個人での要約文とグループワークでの要約文を比較した。また、内省及び評価の質問紙記述の内容から、本実践の効果と評価を示した。その結果、学習者がピア・ラーニングによって互いに刺激しあい課題を遂行したこと、要約スキルに関する様々な気づきがあったこと、教師が提示した要約スキルがピア・ラーニングによって再確認され習得に結びついたこと、学習者がピア・ラーニングに高い評価を示していること等がわかった。
Many of the advanced level JSL students studying in the Japanese Language and Culture Program at Chubu University have set lofty goals for themselves such as entering graduate school at a university in Japan, writing a thesis or other research papers in Japanese, and/or working for a Japanese-affiliated firm. Therefore,for them to accomplish these goals, it is important to increase and hone their Japanese writing skills. One way to achieve this is by writing summaries of various articles. This paper introduces a peer-learning activity for an advanced Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) reading/writing class for summary writing. Instead of writing summaries repeatedly in class and the teacher correcting them individually, students were divided into groups and given the same article. They were then instructed to write a summary on their own. After completing their individual summary, they were asked to write a summary of the same article together with their group. No instruction was given on how to write the group summary, and the process varied considerably from group to group. However, by doing this, students in all groups not only actively learned different writing techniques for summaries from their peers, but also increased their ability to cooperate with others by sharing ideas. A reflection and evaluation surveys were conducted after this activity, which showed students basically rated this peer-learning exercise as a positive experience. Possibilities for future activities and discussion about some of the problems that were revealed from the survey are also provided.
