Precipitation samples by Lake Biwa at Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, collected over a 19 year period, from January 1991 to December 2009, were analyzed. Dissolved ions, including H+, NH4 +, Na+, K+, Mg2 +, Ca2 +, Cl-, NO3- and SO4 2-, were analyzed in 1818 samples. The pH of these samples ranged from 3.3 to 7.3, with an average of 4.59. Trends in chemical components of precipitation over the 19 year period were determined, with origins of dissolved ions deduced by principal components analysis. Deposition of [H+] according to rainfall shows characteristic distribution, due to the deposition balance among [NO3-], [SO4 2-], [NH4+] and [Ca2+].
