Educational Practice Using ArcGIS

This report introduces two educational practices. One is the class of Computing Exercise Ⅳin Department of Industrial Business and Engineering in Fukui University of Technology, and another is the class of Environment Remote Sensing in Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. In the former class, GIS (Geographic Information System) and CAD (Computer Aided Design) are mainly studied in order to include the contents which agree with the high school curriculum guidelines "Industry" of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and two written proposals are made as the applications of GIS and CAD to business fields. ArcGIS as GIS software and AutoCAD as CAD software are used. In the latter class, ArcGIS is used for the image processing and measurement by the satellite remote sensing, and natural disasters (2011 eastern Japan great earthquake, 2004 Fukui heavy rainfall), air pollution, global warming, etc. are studied. The used satellite data are Landsat5, Landsat7, Landsat8, Aster, Alos and MODIS. In both classes, good educational results are obtained.
