内容記述
In freshwater system, nitrogen is a major nutrient that affects the system productivity and the limiting factor for the growth of many microorganisms. Although there are many researches investigating nitrogen transformation, existing knowledge of some pathways is still fragmentary, which are nitrification transformation under high suspended sediment (SS) and instream release of dissolved nitrogen (DN) from particulate organic nitrogen (PON). In the first study, three common clay minerals were used as representative of SS in river. The results showed that clay mineral type and concentration significantly affected nitrifying bacterial cell density and nitrification rate constant. The second study showed that fine particulate organic matter, having a relatively large surface area, is an important DN source in streams, despite being relatively refractory; and DN release from PON is substantially influenced by their sources and chemical qualities.
