Estimating Optimal Portal Placement for Arthroscopic Hip Surgery

Arthroscopic hip surgery in the supine position is effective method for Femoro Acetabular Impingement (FAI). To operate this method, basically two portals are established on the patient’ skin, one is to insert an arthroscope, another is mainly for working space of instruments like a shaver blade etc. Although these location of portals are decided by surgeon’s palpating or fluoroscopic view during hip distraction, replacing this process by quantitatively estimating system by computing yield not only lighten the burden imposed on surgeon but also reduce operation time and increase reproducibility and optimize portal placement. This report mention about progress of development of estimating system of optimal portal placement with virtual arthroscopic view using 3D Slicer.
