The sediment disasters and the flood damage by the record rainfall have frequently taken place somewhere in Japan. Taketa City, Oita Prefecture located in the semi-mountainous area has experienced several flood disasters by the heavy rain in its history. The present study takes up the flood damage that took place in teh Taketa City in July, 2012 to be a case, and believes the flood area and the background of the generation in relating about its geomorphological condition, the socioeconomic change and the land-use change. The region where the flood occurs repeatedly in the city advanced by the urban land use since the latter half of the 20th centuly, and corresponds to small-scale river valley plains that have been chiefly used as a farmlland. The local government has just began the advance for the cultivation of citizens' disaster awareness in addition to a civil engineering technique such as a river improvement in order to improve the resilience of disaster in the Taketa City since the disaster in 2012.
