Analysis of Nature-oriented Experiences at Kindergarten and Elementary School: Focused on the Development of Scientific Perspectives and Ideas

The authors analyzed nature-oriented experiences at kindergarten and elementary school focused on the development of scientific perspectives and ideas. The following results were obtained: 1) the extent of nature-oriented experiences in kindergarten teachers' childhoods were significantly related to four outdoor activities they taught; 2) kindergarten teachers conducted more nature-oriented experiences, mainly modeled on proto-experiences, than did elementary school teachers; 3) living environment studies in elementary school included fewer nature-oriented experiences realizing the fun and wonder of nature than did kindergarten lessons; and 4) in nature-oriented experiences of elementary school living environment studies, teachers' “in-depth questioning" in reflection activities was important in qualitatively helping to raise learners' awareness of natural phenomena around them.
