Skills to Explore Sciences Learned through Junior High School Curriculums

How to learn skills of science such as experimental design, analysis and discussion in natural science are discussed. By researchers of scientific philosophy, logical reasoning and inference commonly used in natural science were classified, leading to typical patterns of the phrases describing logical reasoning and inference. The analysis and discussion in natural science are constructed by combinations of the patterns of logical reasoning and inference such as deduction, induction and abduction, suggesting that these patterns give a framework of the analysis and discussion. Furthermore, the patterns of logical reasoning and inference also limit experimental design. Consequently, these lead to a hypothesis that learning how to use the patterns equals to learning skills of natural science. In this report, this hypothesis is illustrated through an example “Distinction between sugar, salt and warehouse" which is frequently done in junior high school curriculums in Japan.
