Educational Program on Disaster Prevention for Children with Developmental Disorders ─Practice Focusing on the Reasonable Accommodation─

The aim of this study is to examine the teaching methods of disaster prevention for challenged children and teaching program focusing on the reasonable accommodation. In August 2016, we conducted workshop concerning disaster prevention. Eight elementary school students with developmental disorders were participated in the workshop. Before conducting the workshop, we interviewed supporters and parents concerning the reasonable accommodation. The program of workshop was made in cooperation with them. Before and after the practice of workshop, we interviewed supporters concerning basic points of attention, notices and problems. Using schedule list for outlook, visual assistance using illustration and picture cards, experimental learning by Role play were effective for the children with developmental disorders. Although this practice was conducted in support facility, the reasonable accommodation and support methods can be applied to the education of disaster prevention in schools.
