This article treated of “Fueki‒Ryūkō", which is some kind of changelessness and changefulness combined, advanced by Matsuo Bashō (1644~1694), the greatest haikai poet in Japan. After various views on “Fueki‒Ryūkō"by his followers were traced briefly, the narratives concerned with it in“Oku‒no‒Hosomichi"or“The Narrow Road of North‒Eastern Provinces" by Bashō, “Sanzōshi" or “Three Booklets on Haikai Poetry" by Hattori Dohō (1657~1730) and “Kyorai‒shō" or “Selections from Kyorai" by Mukai Kyorai (1651~1704) were examined in detail in the light of a schema of “(A↔Ā)=A" which was used in the previous studies on men of religion such as Ippen, Paul and Nicholas of Cusa. The examination showed that the schema was fit for Bashō's view on “Fueki‒Ryūkō" which was taken seriously in composing haikai poems.
