Elementary school teachers are (supposedly) able to teach any subject. Neither of the teachers can teach all subjects equally well, however. Not only that, but they also have areas of specialty even in a single subject. In the case of Japanese study, some teachers are good at teaching stories but not explanatory writing. Some students enjoy story lessons but not explanatory writing lessons, just like the teachers. Moreover, there are even some students who are good at reading the minds of characters in a story, but not at thinking about sentence structure. The purpose of this study is to find out the differences between the teachers and students awareness (their strong and weak points, and their likes and dislikes) of Japanese study and from these results, to explore what makes studying Japanese desirable.
