This paper reports an attempt to investigate effects of an active learning based teaching (ALBT) approach to video viewing as a part of a qualifying curriculum course. Seventeen in-service elementary school teachers in Japan, with limited proficiency of English, watched a 15-minute teaching clip twice: with specific goals untold at first and the second, with viewpoints that the teachers agreed upon among themselves within groups. Although the participants' levels of English varied and mostly limited, they took the most out of the clip that showed a TEFL classroom in Turkey by means of active participation in their group discussion. They were also found to be influenced mostly by the facilitator's guidance when they viewed the video clip for the second time.
