This paper advocates the establishment of a field of "dialectal phylogenetic geography" as a method of historical linguistics. Linguistic phylogenetic research of Ryukyuan languages and dialects will clarify the historical processes of people's migration and settlement on the Ryukyu Islands more comprehensively. By fusing basic research such as phonology, grammar, and lexicology, with applied research, such as comparative linguistics, linguistic typology, and language contact, utilizing research materials from linguistic geography that is based on structural linguistic geography in the historical and comparative field, can we better understand these processes.
