In the past, the wood was carried from the forest to the cities through rivers and seas. Separated from political control, a unique relationship was created through rivers. In the cities, distribution of the wood created various city styles. Some cities developed with canals, lumber stock pools and lumber stores. Especially in Fukagawa Kiba, a unique local culture has grown with the use of water in many industries. The distribution of the wood was related with infrastructure, economy, culture, architecture and local life style and had an impact to them.
