A polarization converter with sidewall roughness is analyzed by the imaginary-distance beam-propagation method based on Yee's mesh and the nite-diffelence time-domain method. The optimum con guration parameters are determined using the eigenmode analysis. When the con-verter length is chosen to be 2.6µm, the converter provides the wideband operation. Regardlessof the presence of the sidewall roughness, an extinction ratio of more than 15dB is obtained over a wide wavelength range of 1.35 µm to 1.55 µm, with an insertion loss of less than 1dB.Key Words : Polarization Converter, Sidewall-roughness
