This paper describes the development of a vaporizer-type combustor for a micro jet engine of a thrust of about 100N, which is expected to be used for environmental research, rescue supports at the time of accidents. This effort is a part of a joint project with private companies. Reliability and durability much higher than those for hobby use are required for the engine. Combustion efficiencies were evaluated for in-house designed combustion liners and vaporizers of different configurations at simulated combustor inlet temperatures and air flow rates of the engine. Optimization of the combustion air split along the combustor axis and a circumferential flow in the combustion liner dome produced by the fuel/air mixture jets from the vaporizer exits resulted in combustion efficiencies greater than 98% at conditions simulating the rated speed. In spite of this fact, the combustor failed to accelerate the engine. Investigation of the reason for this failure revealed that combustion efficiency was decreasing with increasing fuel flow rate in the acceleration phase.
