From around 2000, fatigue cracks originating from weld roots between deck plate and trough rib and propagating into deck plates have been detected in vicinity of the intersection to lateral ribs of orthotropic steel deck. In this study, fatigue tests have been performed on as-welded model specimens under load range of 35kN, and annealing stress relief specimens under range of 50kN. The results are compared with those of as-welded specimens under load range of 50kN. In addition, thermo-elasto-plastic stress analyses are carried out to get the residual stress of welded joints between steel deck plate and trough rib in orthotropic steel deck. Moreover, methods for reducing the residual stress are considered.
