This paper showed the action of the coarse aggregate of the concrete with perfobond rib through both experiment and FE analysis. Experiments indicated that the shear stiffness was increased by the mechanical locking between the coarse aggregate and top surface of the perforation of the steel rib. In addition, the ultimate shear capacity could be explained in terms of the mechanical locking of each coarse aggregate and constraint condition of the specimen. These behaviors could be simulated by adding elastic elements assuming coarse aggregates discretely to the original FE model.
