This study observes the evolution of district names of City of Edo since early years of Meiji. District names were changedbecause of land readjustment after the Kanto big earthquake or rearranging of names and limits of each district by the new law of address after the World War II. I digitize the morphology using the topographical map of City of Tokyo 1887 and analyze the adaptability between district names and morphological units. As a result, the district names decreased more than a half since early years ofMeiji and many district names do not correspond any more to the morphological unit.
