FABRICATION OF TEXTURED HEMATITE CERAMICS USING STRONG MAGNETIC ORIENTATION PROCESSING AND CHARACTERISTIC OF ANISOTROPIC PROPERTIES
We utilized the crystallographic relationship between hematite (α-Fe 2 O 3 ) and paramagnetic goethite (α-FeOOH) to fabricate oriented hematite sintered compact. Goethite powders were synthesized by alkaline precipitation of ferric nitrate solution using sodium hydroxide followed by aging. Goethite green compacts prepared by the magnetic field-assisted colloidal processing technique were sintered. The c-axis of hematite was aligned parallel to the applied magnetic field. Relative density of the hematite ceramics was improved through the orientation. Key Words: hematite, goethite, anisotropic particle, topotaxy, magnetic field-assisted colloidal process.
