Brettstappel, previously invented structural panel, consists of softwood lumbers stacked with mechanical fasteners like nails or dowels. This paper summarizes the first prototype manufacturing of Brettstapel made from Japanese low-value lumbers and the application to load bearing elements as walls and floors. A series of loading tests evaluated the performance of these prototype sufficient enough as seismic resistant walls as well as floor structures. Following the successful structural evaluation, the Brettstapel was applied to a one-family house that is the first Brettstapel building in Japan.
