Thick wood constructions, like CLT or log walls, are excellent both in heat insulation and heat storage, as well as in structural resistance. Instead of evaluating respectively the technical advantages, this paper focuses on the mutuality of these performances, especially from the view point of thermal conditions. Numerical analysis with a conventional software revealed the results as following: Although it is not reasonable to realize thermally sufficient room conditions only with thick wood panels, a simple modification, e.g. adding XPS insulation layer, on the thick wood panels achieves an excellent mutual effect of heat insulation and storage. The effect of wood panel variation was also studied. In comparison of the panels with inner air layer, the solid wood panel showed a slight advantage.
