A HEURISTIC ALGORITHM FOR OPERATIONAL PLANNING AND SCHEDULING IN AN AUTOMATIC PICKING SYSTEM

In this thesis, aiming at improving efficiency in a portion of logistics activities, we propose a heuristic algorithm for operational planning and scheduling in an automatic picking system. For a given set of requests from stores to be assorted by an automatic picking system, our algorithm determines from which lanes and at which timing the products should be discharged. Through computational experiments using benchmark problem instances with different parameter settings, we evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and discuss its characteristics.
