Description
AB2 hetero-arm star polymer and (AB) 3 star-block copolymer (A: polystyrene, B: polycaprolactone or polylactide) were precisely synthesized by living anionic polymerization and ring-opening polymerization.They are composed of a commodity polymer (PS) and biodegradable polymer (PCL, PLA). The thermal stability and biosafety of the star polymers were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and culture of Escherichia coli. It was suggested that each segment chain lengths affect the thermal decomposition temperature (Td). Interestingly, the star polymers can be regarded as safe for E. coli.
