CHARACTERIZATION OF LONG TERM QT-RR INTERVAL CO-VARIABILITY IN TYPE 2 DIABETES

This paper proposes a method of stratification of Type 2 Diabetic (T2DM) patients based on co-variability of RR-QT interval sequence. RR and QT intervals from 17 T2DM patients and 24 normal subjects are majored from 24 hour Holter ECG recordings. To evaluate the co-variability of QT-RR intervals, serial correlation coefficient and mutual entropy have been estimated for beat to beat and 100 beat median smoothed sequences. For beat to beat QT-RR sequences, both serial correlation and mutual information showed significantly lower co-variability for T2DM patients compared to normal control subjects. Only serial correlation coefficient showed significant differences for median smoothed sequences. Further, it has been observed that the lower QT-RR interval co-variability the lower other diabetic index values TC and TG. These results suggest that the proposed index will be useful for stratification of the T2DM patients.
